At the very beginning of the new term, good tidings came from HNU’ OIEC that HNU’s long-term oversea students breached one hundred. Up to Sep. 1^st, a total number of 110 oversea students has registered at HNU, which is also the first time of such a breakthrough.

During the past few years, our school’s long-term oversea students have been kept hanging around 50. In order to improve this situation, realizing the strategic goal of developing the university to an international level, the university took every aspect into consideration and set up a new office for the enrollment of oversea students at OIEC. At the same time, effectives have been sent to seek various channels for propagandizing and broadening source of oversea students. All the measures have been proved effectual. In 2006, the number of oversea students once reached seventy, in the first half of this year, it dropped back to about 50, but now in this new semester the number of oversea students increased double!

Currently we have oversea students come from 16 different countries, among which there are first groups from Middle Asia and Africa. Compared with the past when most of the oversea students were from Japan and South Korea, this is another great breakthrough. It’s estimated that the number of students from those areas will keep increasing through the effort made by OIEC.

With the developing of the university, our teaching has also been received oversea students’ consent. Besides applying for the course of Chinese language, the oversea students are also attracted by other colleges of HNU for their advantages such as Physical Education College, Foreign Studies College, College of Resource and Environment Science, Tourism College, Medical College and so on. The learning level has been extended from single language studying to degree-seeking studying, which shows that our university’s education to oversea students has been improved both in level and contents.
