On the afternoon of May 30th, 2007, a grand opening ceremony for the Confucius Institute at Kazan University was held. This university was once praised by Secretary General Hu Jintao as the “century old university known to cradle talents”. Salakhov, President of Kazan University and Liu Xiangrong, President of Hunan Normal University unveiled the sign at this ceremony. Relevant leaders from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to the Russian Federation, as well as the Ministry of Education and Science and Ministry of Trade and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tataria, Russia were also at the ceremony.

After the opening ceremony, the representatives attended the opening ceremony for the “Festival of China”, co-organized by Hunan Normal University and Kazan University. This “Festival of China” will exhibit the four treasures of study (brush, ink-stick, paper and ink-stone), calligraphy, national paintings, hold lectures on Chinese knowledge cultural and showed Chinese movies. This activity was well received by the students and teachers of the university.
