With the warmest welcome of the audience, Prof. Roy Glauber, Nobel Laureate Professor of Harvard University gave a lecture of “A Century of Light Quanta” in the International Academic Lecture Hall of Hunan Normal University. Prof. Kuang Leman, Vice President of Hunan Normal University, hosted the lecture.

During the lecture, over 300 faculties and students were deeply impressed by Prof. Glauber's profound knowledge as well as his vivid speech language. Prof. Glauber then answered the questions raised by the audience in the free discussion session.

Prof. Roy Glauber was born in 1925 in New York. He got his PHD degree of Physics in 1945. Prof. Glauber pioneered the quantum theory of optical coherence. He has been working on the theory for more than 40 years and is known as the “father of quantum optics”. In 2005, Prof. Glauber was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for his contribution to the quantum theory of optical coherence.

Prof. Zhang Guoji, the Chairman of University Council, has hosted a welcoming ceremony as well as banquet for Prof. Glauber and his wife. During the ceremony, Prof. Zhang gave a brief introduction of Hunan Normal University and hoped Prof. Glauber would visit Hunan Normal University again in the future. It was the first time for Prof. Glauber and his wife to visit to Hunan, they appreciated the warm welcome from HNU and they were deeply impressed by the Hunan traditional dishes.
