Have you seen them lately?  You don't have to look far to find international students from Russia, Finland, Britain, Germany, Brazil and other countries on HNU campus. They walk among us, in pairs or threes, adding that welcome international aura to our campus.

    By the end of September, the number of overseas students enrolled this year reaches 74, increasing by 54% compared with last year, among whom there are 36 exchange students from Japan, Korea, Russia, Finland and the other five partnership universities. The total number of overseas students reaches a new height. Compared with past years, not only has the number of the overseas students increased, but the specialties they engage in have now expanded to include Chinese Linguistics, Pedagogy, Chinese Modern and Contemporary Literature, Business Administration, Physical Theory, Philosophy, etc. Thus, our overseas students are no longer just short-term language training course students but are, increasingly, full-time undergraduates, postgraduates or doctoral candidates. All this indicates a profound change both in the number and in education goals of our overseas students.

    We have been developing many new projects of student-exchange with our partnership universities. The number of exchange students, both sent abroad and received by us, increases gradually.  More evident is that the number of exchange students from South Korean has increased from 2 last year to 15 this year, which shows a good tendency of our international efforts. According to the University’s long-range plan, the number of overseas students at all levels will reach 500 by the year of 2010. To reach this goal, we still have a long road to go.
