Hunan Normal University dates back to the National Teachers College, which was founded in 1938, the period of anti-Japanese war. It had changed its name several times (the Teachers College of Hunan University, Hunan Normal College) and amalgamated the disciplines of natural sciences and liberal arts of Nanchang University, Hunan Art College and Hunan Sports College before it was named Hunan Normal University in 1984. From the year of 2000, Hunan Normal University has amalgamated Hunan Education College, the College of Politics and Law in Hunan, and Hunan Medical College. Now the University has become an institution of higher learning with a complete system of disciplines and with excellent faculty. Hunan Normal University is one of the 100 best universities in China with special characteristic in teacher education.
