Professor Tang Kailin, male, born in 1938, is the director of the Institute of Ethnics, and the director of the Morality and Culture Research Center—the key Research Base of Humanities and Social Science under the Ministry of Education. He is also known as the leading scholar in the national key subject – ethics. At the same time, he is the syndic of Philosophy Panel of the State Department, commissioner of the Directing Committee of National Higher Education Philosophy Teaching under the Ministry of Education, vice-chairman of China Ethics Institute.

It has been 44 years since Professor Tang Kailin devoted himself to People’s education course. He is quite severe with himself and cares his students. For long, he has been insisting on arming his students with scientific theories, he is insatiable in learning and tireless in teaching. Cultivation of Thoughts and Morality and Theories of Ethnics are the main courses he is teaching. He prepares lessons carefully, featuring the latest part of study and giving the advanced knowledge and wisdom to his students; he also insists on educational reform, trying to innovate the contents and teaching methods; elicitation is the primary way in his teaching, which helps to motivate students fully and achieve efficient result. Professor Tang Kailin has been honored by Hunan Normal University as one of the “Top 10 Models of Teaching Virtues” and “Top 10 Models of Scientific Research”.

Tang Kailin, as one of the head experts, is in charge of the research called “Theories of Marxism”, and the compiling of syllabus and textbook entitled Understanding of Cultivation of Thoughts and Morality and Law, which are sponsored by the Ministry of Publicity of Chinese Communist Party and the Ministry of Education. He is also hosting 3 teaching reforming projects respectively under Hunan Education Office, Publicity Department of Hunan Committee of Chinese Communist Party and the Publicity Department of Changsha Committee of Chinese Communist Party. He has published 30 monographs (including those that put his name firstly), compiled 2 textbooks of cultivation of thoughts and morality and 7 textbooks of ethnics. He has earned 2 Awards of National Outstanding Teaching Achievement, 2 Awards of Hunan Excellent Textbook. He is the gainer of the title of National Excellent Teacher, the first prize of Zeng Xiangzi Excellent Teacher of Ministry of Education and Hunan Xu Teli Teaching Award.
