Professor Yao Shouzhuo, male, 66 years old, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, graduated from the Department of Chemistry of University of Leningrad in Soviet Union in 1959. He now enjoys several titles, such as Professor of Hunan Normal University, Superintendent of the Department of Chemical Research, and President of the Degree Authorizing Committee of the University.        

      Professor Yao has accomplished a series of fruitful innovative work in the development of cross study applying to new mode of chemistry and biologic telesthesia. He has presided over more than 20 provincial and ministerial items such as national funds for nature and science and he takes charge of the major programs of the 8th Five-year Plan National Funds for Nature and Science and the 9th Five-year Plan subjects of important programs. With more 400 papers published in many academic journals of significance and 4 monographs worked out by him. He has achieved many awards, such as National Prize for Nature and Science Study, the first prize for Advancement in Technology authorized both by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Mechanical Industry, labor model of national education system, and national excellent technological worker, etc. Overall, he is an educationist and scientist who has made prominent contribution.  

      In recent years, supported by National 10th Five-year Plan Key-tackling Program, National Planning Commission, Provincial Department of Sciece and Technology, and Provincial Planning Commission, Professor Yao has developed effective study in analysis of the separation of the elements of Chinese herbal medicine, development of standard comparative products, and relative standardized analytic methods. He has achieved a high level in the separation and purification of monomeric compound in Chinese herbal medicine. The products which has been developed, like high purity (>98%)panax saponin monomer, chicoric acid, glossy ganoderma terpene acid, carthamin yellow carthamus tinctorus yellow colour, rutin, schisandrins A and B, has been designated by the ministry of health as standard comparative products for healthy food functional factor mensuration.He has also cooperated with some herbal medicine enterprises to make fingerprint illustrative chart standard for relative medical materials and medicament and comparative elements(monomeric compound or extracts) for purifying the procedure of making fingerprint illustrative chart.
